The Department of Computer Applications was established in the year 1993. Since its inception, the department has been progressing with a vision and a strong commitment to developing competent programs, uncompromising standards of excellence and grooming the students with computational skills that are required in the IT industry. The department has well-equipped laboratories with latest computers and software. Also, the department has experienced staff members having both teaching and industrial experience.

Industry Conclave:
The Industry Conclave on “Industry Ready Professionals” held on January 7, 2023, aimed to bridge the gap between academia and industry, featuring expert speakers on data analytics, IT careers, cloud computing, and essential skills for professional success. The event was attended by 116 students and 6 faculty members.
Placement: The placement record for the past three years shows a strong average placement rate of 86%, with most students from the KCT/MCA department securing jobs.
- The Department of Computer Applications was established in the year 1993 with 30 sanctioned seats
- In 1999 students’ intake was increased to 60.
- Students’ intake was increased to 120 in 2012.
- Lateral Entry provision since 2013.
- A MoU was signed with Cisco Networking Academy during December 2013 and then CCNA – Routing & Switching Certification course is offered to KCT students.
- SIGN UP , a career guidance programme for the final year students of various Arts and Science Students was organized for three consecutive years from 2014.
- The National Conference on Data Science and Big Data Analytics was conducted in 2015 and 2016.
- MCA Coordinated the Computer Science and Applications stream of International Conferences ISTEM’17 and ISTEP’18 conducted by KCT in 2017 and 2018.
MCA Programming Lab 1
- Laboratory Area: 98.14 Sq.m
This lab is well-established and equipped with 36 Dell Core i5 PCs, each with 8 GB RAM and 1 TB HDD. It serves as a key facility for MCA students to gain hands-on expertise in programming languages such as Java and Python, as well as database management systems and open-source software. The lab is equipped with high-speed internet connectivity to support online learning and development activities. Students receive continuous guidance and support from experienced faculty members and technical staff to enhance their learning experience.

This well-established lab is equipped with 35 HP Core i5 PCs and serves as a vital resource for MCA students to develop hands-on expertise in open-source software. DEPARTMENT ASSOCIATION MEMBERS

AY 2024-25
- A quiz event, “Battle to Win,” was conducted on 08.2024 to honour the Indian independence struggle. A total of 46 students from various departments of KCT participated in the event.
- A technical event titled “Tech Primus” was conducted on 10th December 2024 from 1:30 PM to 4:40 The event aimed to introduce students to emerging technologies, enhance their problem-solving skills, and foster teamwork through hands-on activities and challenges. A total of 51 students actively participated, engaging in interactive sessions, technical quizzes, and real-world problem-solving tasks.
AY 2023-24
- A holistic event titled “Tech Humm,” designed to challenge participants in guessing various technical terms in computer science, was conducted on 20.12.2023. A total of 42 students from KCT participated in the event.
- A technical event, “Enigma,” showcasing technology’s transformative power through immersive challenges, was conducted on 04.2024 as part of Yugam 24. A total of 56 students from various institutions participated in the event.
AY 2022-23
- A technical event titled “Senseless” was conducted on 03.2023 to encourage critical thinking and problem- solving skills. A total of 41 students from various colleges participated in the event.
AY 2021-22
- A workshop on “AZURE SYNAPSE ANALYTICS” was conducted on 05.2022 as part of Yugam 2022. Selvarani, Senior Associate at Robert Bosch, served as the resource person, leading sessions on data integration, big data analytics, and cloud-based data solutions. A total of 89 students from various colleges participated in the workshop.
Mr. Arul Kumar Palanisamy, Founder and Chief Technologist, Aditi Digital, Coimbatore was the Chief Guest for the Inauguration and Induction of Office Bearers Ceremony of the MCA Departmental Association on 21st October 2024. Dr. Raghuveer, Director, Kumaraguru School of Innovation presided over the ceremony and Dr. Sundarrajan. K, PG Coordinator of Kumaraguru College of Technology offered felicitations. A lamp was lit to signify the auspicious start of the proceedings of the departmental association for the academic year 2024-25.
The student office bearers of the Departmental Associations belonging to MCA and M.E/M.Tech. programs were introduced and presented with badges.
Ms. Vasundhara, President of the PG Forum of KCT offered felicitations to the new office bearers of the Departmental Association.
The activities of the departmental associations were highlighted by Mr. Abhisek and Mr. Mohammed Afrith of MCA program. The program was attended by faculty and students of MCA and M.E. / M. Tech. programs.
