About the Department
The department of Mechanical Engineering was established in 1984. It is equipped with state-of-the-art workshops, laboratories and computing facilities. The department has highly qualified and experienced faculty members. Accredited by NBA in 2019 the Department has been recognized as a research centre by Anna University from April 2003. The faculty members actively engage in research and constantly publish papers in International and National Journals. Guest lectures and industrial visits are periodically arranged for the students to enhance their curriculum. It strives for all round excellence in students, encouraging them in all extra-curricular activities.

Professor & Head
The Department of Mechanical Engineering being one of the versatile departments of the Institute with well-equipped laboratories provides hands on training to all the students at under graduate, post graduate and PhD levels. The Department lays emphasis primarily on preparing the students to accomplish focused expertise in areas of their choice. It helps in transforming our students with a perfect balance of intellectual and real-world experiences that help them in serving the demands from our society. Academic course works and projects are designed to endow students with the ability to apply the knowledge of Science, Mathematics and Engineering and the capability to work effectively in multi-disciplinary teams exhibiting leadership and technical skills.

Dr. C. Velmurugan
Professor & HoD
He has completed his research work in the area of metal matrix composites. He was produced 3 PhDs and guiding 9 Ph.D. research scholars. He has received grants from government agencies like AICTE, DST, TNSCST for organizing conferences, seminars and research projects. He was the reviewer in various reputed international journals and organized various conferences and short term training programmes.

- Dr. V. MUTHUKUMARAN is a distinguished professor of Mechanical Engineering, renowned for his extensive experience in both industry and academia. His research focuses primarily on materials science and biomaterial design, where he explores innovative solutions for medical and industrial applications. With a career spanning over 31 years, Dr. V . Muthukumaran has successfully led numerous groundbreaking projects, published research papers, acquiring significant research funding from national and international agencies.
- In addition to his contributions to the field, he is known for his deep passion for reading, which fuels his curiosity and creativity in research. His academic work is complemented by his industry experience, enabling him to bridge theoretical knowledge with practical applications, making him a key figure in advancing material technologies and bioengineering solutions.
Dr. N. Sangeetha
Senior Associate Professor
Dr. N. Sangeetha joined KCT in the year 2010 and has a teaching experience of 20 years. She continuously updates herself with the latest knowledge in the field of vibration analysis to design a mechanical system. She has a good experience in vibration measurements for various applications. She is involved in lot of consultancy projects. She constantly guides students for projects related to industry applications and design competitions.
Her strong points are her positive attitude, dedication, and commitment to her students.
She has served the institution as a member of the academic audit and program coordinator for UG Mechanical Engineering.
Dr. S. Bhaskar
Associate Professor
Dr. S. Bhaskar, is a Faculty in Mechanical Engineering Department at Kumaraguru College of Technology (KCT), Coimbatore., India. He is basically a Mechanical Engineer with a Master’s in Engineering Management and a doctorate in Mechanical Engineering Sciences from Visvesvaraya Technological University, Karnataka. Headed the Center of Academic Excellence of the Institution (KCT) from 2009 to 2018. Has experience of 29+ years in teaching at KCT and 01 year in industry and is an All India Management Association (AIMA) certified trainer. Has expertise in Outcome Based Education (OBE) and accreditation processes and is a well-known trainer in OBE and accreditation. Has his YouTube Channel titled “Trainer Bhaskar” that deals with OBE, Career Readiness, Placement and beyond. Has authored 22 books on Engineering, Management and Personality Development.
Mr. T. R. Sukumar

Prof. T. R. Sukumar is an enterprising and dedicated teaching professional who strongly believe in being a guide in the learning process and develop students in both academic and life skill enrichment. He has more than 30 years of teaching and administrative experience and handled more the 15 technical courses. His field of specialization is Industrial Engineering and contributed to his level best for the development of Industrial Engineering through Indian Institution of Industrial Engineering, a Professional Society for IE. He is also the fellow of IIIE,Mumbai. He has done a sizeable number of consultancy projects for industries in Coimbatore. He is also concerned with social service and has done activities in rural villages through NSS/YRC forum.
Dr. K. M. Senthil Kumar

Dr. K. M. Senthilkumar has joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering as an Associate professor in the year July 2014. He received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Anna University, in 2013. His interests are learning principled methods for representation and optimization of discrete problems occurring in Manufacturing. He works at the Sustainable Manufacturing and Scheduling with non-traditional optimization techniques like GA, Ant Colony Algorithm, Fuzzy Logic etc and Industry 4.0 with AI, to enable globally distributed teams of Manufacturers to participate in the Manufacturing process. He worked as a Professor and Head, in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. He was a Production Engineer in m/s. AAR VEE Industries, Coimbatore and also m/s Saffire Jewel Crafts private Ltd., Coimbatore. He has Published 31 International Journals, 2 National Journals and 15 International Conferences (4 Outside the Country) with a Patent.

Dr. M. Balaji
Associate Professor
Dr. M. Balaji hails from Nilgiris were he completed his schooling from St Joseph’s Anglo Indian Boys Higher Secondary School, Coonoor. He is a complete alumnus of Kumaraguru College of Technology, Coimbatore having done his Undergraduation in Mechanical Engineering (1995-1999) and Postgraduation in Industrial Engineering (2001-2002). An additional qualification of an MBA from Bharathiar University later added a finer label to his profession and his Doctoral program (2010-2015) entitled ‘Studies on evaluating and enhancing Supply Chain Agility of SME’s using Total Agile Design Systems’ was from Anna University, Chennai. He is also a life member of prestigious society of Indian Institution of Industrial Engineering (IIIE), Mumbai.
His Phd exertion focused on the upliftment of Supply chain Agility Index of a cluster of pump manufacturers in the region which was highly commended by Indian and foreign examiners. He has 61 papers in International journals, 8 papers in National journals, 43 papers in International conferences and 22 papers in National conferences to his credit, under the flagship of KCT. These publications stand tall as evidence to his research potential with google scholar citations of 678, h-index of 15 and i-10 index of 16 and in continuance, he has also reviewed more than 40 papers in International Journals. In parity, Anna University – Chennai had also recognized Dr.M.Balaji as a research supervisor in the stream of Mechanical engineering and presently 6 scholars are pursuing their doctoral programs in varied areas of Industrial Engineering and Management under his supervision. Besides, he is also a Doctoral committee member for 4 scholars pursuing Phd in other reputed institutions under Anna University.
His noteworthy experience of over 24 years embraces 18 years in KCT, were he has initiated 5S implementation, Played the roles of class advisor for UG and PG streams, Project Coordinator and Admissions Coordinator for PG(Industrial Engineering), BOS coordinator for UG(Mechanical Engineering) & PG(Industrial Engineering), In charge for Entrepreneurship Development Cell and as Department Coordinator for Alumni Relations in serving his alma matter.
Dr. B. Senthilkumar

Dr. B. Senthilkumar has 18 years of teaching experience at various levels.
Interests are focused on Materials characterization, Welding, Additive Manufacturing and Condition monitoring of CNC machines.

Dr. S. Thirumurugaveerkumar

Dr. S. Thirumurugaveerakumar is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and obtained Doctoral degree in Anna University Chennai during the year 2018 in the area of Thermal Analysis on Busbar. He has more than 15 years of teaching experience. He supposes that by enriching the knowledge and self-confidence of students by involving them in research and to support them in publishing research articles, patents, etc. Students can believe in themselves, through that belief, they can take on the challenges of their life and move forward.
Dr. V. Manivel Muralidaran

Dr. V. Manivelmuralidaran completed his B.E., from Government College of Engineering, Salem in the year 2005 and his PG degree from Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore in Manufacturing Technology specialisation in the year 2007. He has 13 years of experience in teaching in reputed institutions. He has 7 years of research experience and completed Ph.D in Mechanical Engineering from Anna University in 2020. He has guided 12 UG scholars and 7 PG scholars during his tenure as Assistant Professor. He has published 13 journal articles in various national and International journal and Scopus indexed journals. He is a motivating and enthusiastic person to take up any challenging work in his career.
Dr. S. Sivakumar

Dr. S. Sivakumar has completed his UG and PG programme in the Government College of Technology, Coimbatore. He has worked 5 years in the industry and 12 years in teaching which includes his experience as Teaching Research Associate (TRA) in College of Engineering, Guindy, Anna University. The research and engineering experience in various companies such as PRICOL, TVS, HEXDOF. He has worked on and managed number of FEA, CFD related design analysis projects for the automotive and pump industry. He has published 20 Scopus Indexed research articles related to Thermal Equipment Design in well reputed International Journals with good impact factor and also presented papers in 15 International Conferences and 5 National Conferences. His areas of specialization are CFD, FEA, Thermal equipment Design, Solar Energy, Biomass Gasifier Design and Development. He has involved in research of “Design and Development of a 10 and 5 kW Downdraft Gasifier for Cooking and Electrical Application”, and ‘CFD Assisted Design and analysis of Solar Panel for thermal Applications” for past 10 years. He has designed and constructed a 1.5 Ton Capacity of Cold Room with a cost of 4 lakhs in Jayalakshmi Institute of Technology Boys Hostel. He has designed and fabricated a 20 liters Capacity of Small Refrigerator at a cost of Rs.1500. He has actively involved in the Design and FEA analysis of Royal Enfield bike and External Aerodynamics analysis in TATA Heavy Vehicles. He has the vision to become an excellent academician and researcher in the field of thermal equipment design with great social impact.

Mr. Ramanathan Seranthian is currently pursuing his Ph.D in Anna University, Chennai on “Heat Transfer Enhancement using Vortex Generator”. He has 14 years of teaching and 8 years of research experiences. He is the co-principal investigator of a project entitled “Design and Analysis of Dehumidifier for Herbs” funded by Institution of Engineers”. He is involved in teaching various thermal based subjects like Turbomachines and Computational Fluid Mechanics. He is an active research scholar who is presently working on heat transfer augmentation both numerically and experimentally.

Dr. K. Krishnamoorthi completed his UG in Mechanical Engineering from Erode Sengunthar Engineering College, PG in Production Engineering from PSG College of Technology, and completed Ph.D. in the field of manufacturing from the research center, PSG College of Technology. He started his career as a teaching professional in June 2009. He works as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering for about 12 years. He has published 12 research articles.

Skilled in Lecturing, Computer-Aided Design, Computer-Aided Manufacturing, computer-aided Engineering, IoT, Science, and Research. Strong education professional with a Doctor of Philosophy – Ph.D. focused in Sustainable Manufacturing from Anna University. Having more than 15 years of teaching experience and 2 years of Industry experience. My mission in teaching is to motivate the students towards core mechanical engineering field enhancing strategic goals, bottom-line objectives, leadership qualities with social responsibility. To enrich students knowledge relating to improve their project, research and thereby supporting the publication of research articles patent etc.
Dr. M. Thirumalaimuthukumaran

Mr. M. Thirumalaimuthukumaran, Assistant Professor – II is involved in the research work on minimization of Thermal error in CNC machine tools by the use of alternative materials. He has worked as a Senior Research Fellow in the DST sponsored project “Compensation of steady state thermal deformation of machining center under a specified Load cycle” at PSG College of Technology for two years from 2009 after post graduation and also provided consultancy work assistance in the Engineering Design Centre at PSG College of Technology.He worked as a Design Engineer-Tool design in INDOSHELL Mould Ltd for three years after his graduation, he has completed more than 60 real time projects and contributed to development kaizens. He has also participated in workshops like Writing Effective Conference papers, Mathematics for Mechanical and Electrical Sciences, Effective teaching and Research, MATLAB for Engineering Education, Manufacturing challenges in Composites to enrich his expertise in his domain. He has conducted several hands-on training programs in Solidworks and ANSYS since 2011. He has completed an industrial project ” Study of weld thermal cycle for welding of Inconel 718 alloy” for M/s.Cameron Manufacturing India Pvt Ltd. He has published eleven papers in National and International conferences, four papers in National and International journals pertaining to his research work”

He has more than 11 years of experience in teaching and his research areas include Metal Matrix Composites, Creep failure. He has more than 30 years of hands-on experience in Machine Tool operation and Fabrication processes.

Mr. M. A. Vinayagamoorthi is currently Assistant Professor III in Mechanical Engineering associated with the Kumaraguru College of Technology. He has educational qualifications as, Master of Engineering in Product Design and Development and pursuing Ph.D. from Anna University, Chennai in the field of Friction Stir Welding. He has industrial as well as academic experience of 17 years. He has 8 years of industrial exposure in Production, R&D – Product Design. He has filed a patent titled on An Apparatus for holding and Dispensing Water from a Water Can during 2019-2020. He is a member of Coimbatore Productivity council to connect the industry professionals. Interest: I like to travel and gardening. Passion: Volunteering and community service. Hobbies: Sports such as badminton and cricket.
Dr. B. N. Sreeharan

Dr. B. N. Sreeharan is a highly experienced Assistant Professor in Mechanical Engineering at Kumaraguru College of Technology, Coimbatore, with over 25 years of experience in academia and industry. He holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering with a focus on Welding and is a Microsoft Office Specialist in Excel. Dr. Sreeharan has published 33 research papers in national and international journals, including Scopus and WoS indexed publications. He has been instrumental in mentoring both undergraduate and postgraduate students, guiding numerous research and industrial projects. He is a trainer in Microsoft Excel and provides training to corporates. Further, he developed many dashboards in Excel for industries and institutions. He has delivered over 45 guest lectures, workshops, and webinars on topics such as data analytics, Excel, and engineering processes. Dr. Sreeharan’s expertise extends to CAD/CAM, additive manufacturing, and MCDM. He is also an active member of professional organizations like ISTE, IEI, IWS, etc.

Dr. S. Balaji is an academically astute Assistant Professor III in Mechanical Engineering at Kumaraguru college of Technology. He pursued his Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Masters in Thermal engineering and Doctoral degree in the field of Thermal sciences from Anna University, Chennai. His research interests include enhancement of biomethanation of organic wastes and Building Integrated Photovoltaics.
He has published 29 research articles in Conferences and Journals in the field of Mechanical Engineering. He has authored chapters for a textbook on ‘Engineering Mechanics’ published by John Wiley & Sons, Inc. He is involved in training the students to participate in national level student design events conducted by professional societies. He is recognised as a doctoral research supervisor by Anna University, Chennai.
Dr. M. Ramesh Kumar

Mr. Ramesh Kumar. M. is working as an Assistant Professor III in the Department of Mechanical Engineering in KCT, Coimbatore. He is currently pursuing his Ph.D. in the development of low-cost building materials using agro-waste. He is co-investigator for MEITY funded research project for “Development of Autonomous Rice Transplanter Vehicle”. He was one of the mentors for Quadbike “Team Legion”. His Ph.D. research project has been selected as 100 best innovations for Tata Design Impact Award.
Dr. P. S. Samuel Ratna Kumar

Dr. Samuel Ratna Kumar P S, Assistant Professor III in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Kumaraguru College of Technology since 2014. He is recognized as a doctoral research supervisor by Anna University, Chennai. His research interests include Advanced Materials, Composites, Nanotechnology, Metal-Air batteries, Corrosion, and Ballistic study.
He was awarded a “GLOBAL EXCELLENCE STATURE FELLOWSHIP” to pursue his Post-Doctoral Research within the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment at the University of Johannesburg, South Africa. He was honored with a “SENIOR RESEARCH ASSOCIATE” post within the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment at the University of Johannesburg, South Africa.
He has received a research grant of Rs.90 lakhs from various organizations like the University of Johannesburg, DRDO, AICTE, IE(I) and other GoIs.
He has published more than 25 research articles in the SCI/SCIE/Scopus indexed journal in the field of his expertise. He has authored 1 book and 13 book chapters published by Elsevier, Springer, Wiley and T&F publications. He is also a recognized reviewer for 5 reputed SCI/SCIE indexed International Journals.
He received various awards such as “Faculty Contributor of the Year – 2023 – 24” (Institution level) for a Funded project & Industry Consultancy, “Institutional Excellence Award” (Institution level) during the Academic year 2024 – 2025, Best Young Faculty Award (Institution level) during the Academic year 2016 – 2017 & 2018 – 2019 in Kumaraguru College of Technology.
He was a member of the Technical Program Committee at various international conferences around the globe.
Dr. P. R. Ayyappan

Dr. AYYAPPAN. P.R. has vast experience of 22 years of experience in teaching out of which 15 years in KCT and 2 years in AC College of Technology, University department, Anna University-Chennai. He has the passion for teaching and research. Obtained Ph.D from Anna University and having an exposure of presenting papers in European Universities on green house gas emission reduction technologies, he developes/guides projects that are sustainable contributing to reduction in green house gas emissions. He has the passion to improve the knowledge system in society.

Mr. S. Sivakumar is doing research in the area of renewable energy-solar dying of agricultural products to be exported. He has a teaching experience of 14 years. His areas of specialization are Renewable Energy and IC engines. He is very passionate towards students academic development. His hobbies are reading books and listening to music.
Mr. S. Prabhu

- Mr. S. Prabhu is working as an Assistant Professor in Mechanical Engineering at Kumaraguru College of Technology.
- He pursued his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Masters in Thermal engineering from Anna University, Chennai.
- His research interests are in the areas of radiant cooling, heat transfer and thermal engineering.
- He is the faculty advisor for the team SAE E BAJA and M BAJA and involved in training the students to participate in national level technical events conducted by professional societies.

Mr. Rajesh. S is pursuing Ph.D. on metal matrix composites and He has published papers in various jouranls related to the field of research. I have conducted many technical skill development programmes based on academic subjects for students which include both club activities (groups to discuss and practice certain subjects) and competitive teams. He has been a part of several activities in the department and college level. He is an active cricketer who has brought lot of laurels to the institution.
Mr. R. S. Mohan Kumar

Mr. R. S. Mohan Kumar is an M.E in Product Design and Development from PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore. He has 7 Technical Paper Publications in International Journals and is a Member of the Coimbatore Productivity Council.
He has guided around 15 UG projects, 02 PG projects and 02 Industrial associated projects.
Mr.R.S.Mohan Kumar is an engaging teaching professional with an academic experience of about 11 years in teaching various Mechanical Engineering courses. Supports and welcome the new technological advancements, provided various Technical training to both Students and the Industrial fraternity.
Mr. V. R. Navaneeth

Mr. Navaneeth. V. R. is currently working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Kumaraguru College of Technology. He obtained his B.E Degree in the year 2010 and M. E (CAD/CAM) in the year 2014. He has industry experience of 2 years as a production planning Engineer and CAE Application Engineer. He has been indulged in the training of product design and analysis for corporate professionals. His thrust areas are new product development and product life cycle analysis.

Mr. Prabhu. S is specialized in Energy Engineering and he is passionate about updating his knowledge on renewable energy. His subject of teaching includes Mechanical and Thermal Sciences.
Mr. B. Jeeva
Assistant Professor II
A researcher who work in Experimental Fluids and Thermal Engineering and has relevant experience in Power Plant operation, maintenance, and commissioning of Gas based and cogeneration power plant. He has been the recipient of various fellowships at IIT Madras, IIT Bombay, and IIT Delhi. His passion is towards contributing to the needs of the scientific community and his hobbies include dancing and playing cricket etc.

Mr. P. Pradeep has a total of 8 years of experience in the field of teaching and industrial experiences. He has published 6 research papers in Scopus indexed journals in the field of design and composite materials and has enrolled for Ph.D. from Anna University in the field of Composite Materials. He has worked in the field of FE Modelling solid Meshing for the Terex Cranes India during the project done at Enphiniti Engineering Solutions and Senior Design Engineer to most of rough terrain cranes Project.
Mr. P. D. Devan

Mr. P. D. Devan is specialised in the domain of Mechanical Design and Finite Element Analysis. He has completed Master Degree in Engineering Design from Anna University and having more than five years of teaching experience. He is an active reviewer of Walailak Journal of Science and Technology. He had published two patents. He has done consultancy project to Indian Railways. Attended more number of Faculty Development Programmes and certification courses.
Mr. K. Manikanda Prasath

K. Manikanda Prasath completed his B.E. Mechanical Engineering at PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore and M.E. Industrial Engineering (Gold medalist) at Kumaraguru College of Technology, Coimbatore. He is a qualified GATE scorer in 2012 and 2015. He is the life time member of Coimbatore Productivity Council and Life Time Member Membership of the International Association of Engineers.
Published 14 papers in reputed International Journals (9 Scopus), 13 in International conferences and 2 in National conferences and organized about 14 workshops and seminars. Has a teaching and research experience of 6 years. His research areas are additive manufacturing and smart manufacturing.
Mr. S. Subbiah
Assistant Professor II
Mr. S. Subbiah, has 8 Years of academic experience and his research interests are Mechanics, Design and Structural analysis. He completed his Masters in CAD/CAM from MEPCO SCHLENK Engineering college. He has about 3 research publications.
He achieved distinction in Business English Communication by Cambridge and awarded as best performer (US accent) by M/S Ajuba Solutions. He has guided about 16 UG projects and 2 PG projects, out of which 6 Industrial projects with one from SAIL, as a special mention. His major strength is his great passion for interacting with students, he has wide influence over Institution alumni for the past 5 years. As a standing proof he received Institution’s eminence award “Engal aasaan” for the year 2018-19.
His dedicated documentation skills and department’s special assignments add one more tag to his identity, that drives his routine.
Mr. P. Karthi

Mr. P. Karthi is a classroom and online educator with knowledge in the field of thermal engineering, quantitative aptitude, mathematics and reasoning. He is a post graduate in Thermal Engineering from Hindustan University. He has an experience of more than 6 years in teaching. Having expertise in hi-tech learning platform, he started creating videos on engineering, aptitude and reasoning to help the aspirants get ready for their careers. A well-equipped and developed library is functioning in the department in addition to the central library to tailor the needs of the faculty, students and research scholars. The department library has a total of 800 books in various streams like Engineering Design, Manufacturing, Thermal Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Management, Optimization, Industrial safety, Operations research and quality control. It has current issues of Mechanical Engineering related Periodicals for reference. Project reports done by final year students are stacked in the department library for student’s reference. Department library also a system with the OPAC for accessing question banks for all subjects and link for NPTEL videos for students and faculty’s reference.

A Regional Level Technical Talk on “New Product Design and Development” was organized by the department on 29-12-2021 in the Conference Hall. Mr. M. A. Vinayagamoorthi, Assistant Professor – II, Mr. R. S. Mohan Kumar, Assistant Professor and Dr. S. Thirumurugaveerakumar Associate Professor provided the technical talks. Around 35 students from various engineering colleges listened to the talk.
Another Technical talk on “Recent Advancements on Plastic and Sheet Metal Concept Design” was organized by the department on 20-12-2021. A technical talk on “Recent advancements on Productivity Improvement” was organized by the department in association with Coimbatore Productivity Council (CPC) on 25.11.2021. Mr. R. A Webinar in collobaration with Insitution of Engineers – India on “Mechanical Opportunities Expose to be an Entrepreneur” was conducted on 09-09-2021. Mr. D. Srinivasan, Managing Partner, Bascet Engineering, Coimbatore-641 029. Dr. S. Balasubramanian, Associate Professor coordinated the webinar.
Dr. Balasubramanian also organized an industrial visit to the II-year Mechanical Engineering PBL students on 17-09-2021. They visited M/s. High Precision Industries, SIDCO Industrial Estate, Coimbatore to gain knowledge of Metal cutting, material selection, tooling’s, Quality control and safety aspects of the company.
A Value added course on Application of Mechanical Engineering in Oil and Gas Industries to third and Second year Mechanical Engineering students was organized from 01.09.2021 to 21.09.2021. The course was handled by Mr. Chidambaram Subramanian, Senior Scientist, CSIR, Durgapur, West Bengal for 30 hours through online mode using Microsoft Teams. Totally 58 students attended and 50 students successfully completed the course.

Department organized a webinar on “Latest Generation of Welding Process/Technologies and Career Opportunities -KCT” on 05.05.2020. Mr. A. SUMAN, Area Sales Manager, Perfect Welding, Fronius India Private Limited, India delivered the lecture in the webinar. The webinar was coordinated by Mr. B. N. Sreeharan, AP (II).
Another webinar was organized on the title “Electric Vehicles – What’s, If’s, But’s!” on 09.05.2020, Mr. M. Srinivasan, Senior Vehicle Dynamics Engineer, AMZ Automotive shared his expertise. The webinar was coordinated by Mr. B. N. Sreeharan, AP (II).
For the benefit of the students who is aspiring for higher education in abroad, a Webinar on “COVID-19 and its Impact on STUDY ABROAD” was organized by the department on 11.05.2020. Mr. S. Prasanna Krishna, Educationalist, Consultant, mentor and a public speaker of M/s. Career Zone provided the insights. The webinar was coordinated by Dr. N. Sangeetha, Sr. ASP.
Another webinar on “Introduction to Automotive Noise, Vibration & Harshness (NVH) was organized by the department on 14.05.2020. Mr. Murali Bodla, Managing Director and Technical head, M/s. Along with KCIRI, KCT department organized a two day Training program on “FE simulation using Abaqus” during 28.05.2020 and 29.05.2020. Mr Naganandha, Sr Application Manager, EDS technology trained the participants.

Training on energy auditing Instruments was conducted on 20th December 2019 to M/s Ampere Voltage Consulting Pvt. Ltd, Coimbatore. Ms. Krishna Rubhiga from M/s Ampere Voltage attended the training program. Dr. C. Udhaya Shankar, Associate professor from EEE Department, KCT and Mr. K. Rangarajan, Senior technical Associate from Department of Mechanical engineering attended the training program. Training was provided by Mr. B. Jeeva, Assistant Professor.
A training programme on “MICROSOFT EXCEL: UNKNOWNS TO KNOWNS – PART 1” was organized at CAM Lab on 24.12.2019 exclusively for the Supporting staff members of our institution. Mr. B. N. Sreeharan, AP (II) trained the supporting staff members.
Mr. Sreeharan also trained Dr. S. Thirumuruga Veerakumar, AP (III) and Mr. R. S. Mohan Kumar, Assistant Professor in two separate training programmes titled “Microsoft Excel: Knowns and Unknowns – Part 1 & 2”. Training programmes were conducted on 20.12.2019 and 27.12.2019.
A one day workshop was organized by the department to enhance the computer applications for Technical supporting staff on 26.11.2019. Mr. Thirumalaimuthukumaran, AP (II)/ME and Dr. V. R. Muruganantham coordinated the event.
A One day Training on Personality development and Presentation skills was arranged in the department in association with Coimbatore Productivity Council on 23.11.2019. Mr. M. D. Nasser Kamal, Executive Trainer, CPC, Coimbatore” trained 19 participant in Personality development and also in developing self confidence. Mr. M. A. Vinayagmoorthi, AP (II)/ME and Mr. R. S. An Industrial Training was arranged to our faculty members at M/s. Roots Polycraft on 23.11.2019. Mr. Mahendra Bharathi, HRD, Roots Polycraft, Coimbatore trained 17 faculty members of the department in various machines and also in the procedures followed in Store rooms, Quality Control. Mr. R. S. Mohan Kumar, AP/ME coordinated the event.
A Demonstration on Gas Chromatography was organized for Biotechnology students (UG and PG) on 21.11.2019. Demo was given by Mr. B. Jeeva, AP/ME. The demo included the following (1) Biogas composition was measured by using Gas chromatography (2) Working on gas chromatography.
Our department along with Textile Technology Department organized an AICTE sponsored 14 days FDP on ‘Application of Industrial Engineering concepts in Apparel and Textile Industry to improve productivity and quality of apparels’ between 16.11.2019 and 30.11.2019. Dr. SR. Devadasan/PSG Tech, Coimbatore was the chief guest. Around 40 Participants gained knowledge in the application of Industrial Engineering in Apparels and Textile sectors. Dr. M. Balaji, ASP/ME and Mr. R. S. Mohan Kumar, AP/ME coordinated the event on behalf of our department.
A Guest Lecture on “Awareness on Energy Management certification programme for students from International Society for Energy and sustainability Research (ISESR, UK)” was organized by the department on 31.10.2019. Ms. Krishna Rubigha, CEO, M/s. Ampere Voltage Consulting Private Limited, Coimbatore and CEO of International Society for Energy and Sustainability Research (India) delivered the lecture. Mr. B. Jeeva, AP/ME coordinated the guest lecture.

- Around 30 students from mechanical engineering participated in Anu Awareness Yatra, organized by Indira Gandhi center for Atomic Research IGCAR at KCT on 7th and 8th August 2023.
- 22BME042, Mr. Kalanithi S participated and presented a paper at the world Ocean science congress 2024 on the theme of sustainable utilization of Oceans in the blue economy jointly organized by NIOT, IIT Madras and VIBHA at IIT Madras research Park held from 27 – 29 February, 2024 at Chennai.
- BAJA team secured 7th position in National level and achieved “Best Safety vehicle” position in BAJA 2015.
- QUADTORC team Secured 3rd position in off road design challenge QUADTORC-2015 in national level and 1st position in South India level.
- QBDC is a National Level event conducted by FMAE (FRATERNITY OF MECHANICAL AND AUTOMOBILE ENGINEERS). Legion team of our KCT secured the 1st place in the “KILL THE HILL” followed by Acceleration and Traction test and 2nd prize in Suspension test and also awarded for Best Aesthetics.
- Quad bike team of KCT won National championship in Quad bike competition 2017. The team also won the endurance test, fuel economy test. They also secured second place in acceleration test, kill the hill test and traction test. The event was held at Chandpur near Meerut UP. Cash Award of Rs. 1.6 Lakhs. Quadtorc is an event organised by ISNEE (Indian Society Of New Era Engineers)
